If you soon get a pop-up message on Whatsapp telling you that your messages are secure with end-to-end encryption, there's no need to worry. In fact, it's probably music to your ears.
You may be aware that when you send messages, audio clips, multimedia and alike, they can be intercepted and read by a whole host of people.
With end-to-end encryption, it means that this is no longer a thing.
Anything you send will now be secure between you and the recipient - which is good news for those of you who feel the need to 'clear chat' every time you send something a bit risky.
"From now on when you and your contacts use the latest version of the app, every call you make, and every message, photo, video, file, and voice message you send, is end-to-end encrypted by default, including group chats. The idea is simple: when you send a message, the only person who can read it is the person or group chat that you send that message to. No one can see inside that message. Not cybercriminals. Not hackers. Not oppressive regimes. Not even us," Whatsapp said in a blog post.
Like I said, for many of you this'll be good news. For others, it'll be a case of "are you fucking kidding me, they could see my messages before!?".
Chances are your girlfriend will still be able to access your chats, but that's out of Whatsapp's control.
